Doctors trying to control guns…

Another article that really pisses me off…
The American Medical Association (AMA) is making a big push to control guns. This is a very powerful group with a loud voice that politicians listen to so it is serious.

There is soooo much stupidity in the article below I don’t even know where to start.

As usual, the try and use emotions and tend to forget about FACTS!

One line in particular that pissed me off was “In emergency rooms across the country, the carnage of gun violence has become a too routine experience,”

Number 1. I guarantee 95% of these are from people who had guns illegally. Number 2. Nothing they are proposing would stop that.

I’ll let you read it…

Feel free to make a comment at the bottom and tear this ridiculous article to shreds

John

Backed by broad support from national and state doctor groups, the American Medical Association is launching a renewed push to curb gun violence and mobilize physicians to lobby Congress for legislation doctors say is long overdue.

The AMA’s policy-making House of Delegates Tuesday endorsed several gun control measures including renewed support for banning assault weapons and bump stocks and raising the legal age to 21 for purchasing firearms and munitions.

Capping a week of debate, the AMA’s new policies put the group’s considerable lobbying clout behind legislation heading into November’s mid-term elections when gun control is expected to be a key issue in the wake of school shootings across the country this year.

“Gun violence in America is a public health crisis,” AMA president Dr. David O. Barbe said in a speech to delegates earlier this week.

The AMA has been updating and adding measures to its gun control and public safety agenda for the last two years, but it apparently hasn’t been enough given no movement by the Republican-led Congress in Washington. Several measures were considered at this week’s AMA meeting in Chicago which members described “unprecedented.”

“In the two years that have passed, we have been horrified by yet more carnage: in Parkland, Sutherland Springs, Santa Fe and Las Vegas,” Barbe said. “And those are just a few of the incidents that made headlines. On average, violence claims the lives of nearly 100 people a day in the United States.”

Among the other measures the AMA said it now supports include:

  • advocating for schools as gun-free zones
  • removing firearms from high-risk individuals
  • supporting increase in legal age of purchasing ammunition and firearms from 18 to 21

“In emergency rooms across the country, the carnage of gun violence has become a too routine experience,” AMA ‘s Barbe said Tuesday. “Every day, physicians are treating suicide victims, victims of domestic partner violence, and men and women simply in the wrong place at the wrong time. It doesn’t have to be this way, and we urge lawmakers to act.”

The AMA’s House of Delegates includes representation from most national specialty doctor groups as well as delegations from every U.S. state. Its moves are the latest in an increasing outcry from health professionals who see U.S. gun violence as a health epidemic.

Two years ago, seven of the largest health organizations, including the American College of Physicians, the American Academy of Family Physicians and the American College of Surgeons outlined an elaborate “call to action” with recommendations on how to curb gun violence. The groups said its recommendations are “constitutionally sound.”

  1. These are the same doctors that started the opioid epidemic in this country, the same people that think it’s a good idea to provide needles to people that they have sent down a road of addiction, and now I have read where they are considering providing them with heroin. Yeah let’s talk about guns and wash our hands of the problem we created.Just saying.

      1. This is Comedy Central! I wonder what it would be like if these guys came to the table with facts and common sense? Maybe we should give doctors advice? Like stop over prescribing? Just saying. Stupid liberals, guns are for street smart people! I’m going to buy another gun now.

      2. It is funny that you should mention tobacco, which remains the number one source of preventable deaths in the US. Of course, heart disease is the number one killer. The CDC said that there are 38,000 fatalities due to gunshot last year. Putting things in a little perspective, gunshot does not even make to the list of the 10 top causes of death in the USA>

      3. I am a member of the AMA. I am a member of the NRA as most of my physician friends and patients are I have never heard of this backlash against the Second Amendment from the AMA. I encourage all of my patients to join the NRA and purchase weapons for protection. Everyone in my office has a concealed weapons permit.
If indeed this is true I will resign from the AMA.
I will contact the AMA in the morning!

        1. thanks for your comment. gun control will not stop crime or mean fewer victims . mental health and openness would help.IMO. Jim D

        2. Thank you for your service…and for your sanity!
I also appreciate that you seem to be willing to (via your resignation) actually take a stand, among – and hopefully joined by many of – your peers, to “call out” the inane drivel being spewed, from the AMA’s spokespeople and/or leadership, regarding gun control, and demand that they rescind these baseless statements.
I’d repeat [paraphrased] what the poster said, that nothing they have purported, or put forth as solutions, would do anything to reduce gun violence, or the illegal use of guns to murder and maim.
It’s pure, concentrated, unadulterated Liberal agenda.
The AMA should refrain, from ANY involvement, in such issues which are so very far from their purview, core competency, and core purpose.
It’s ridiculous, and a disgrace to the medical community and good citizens like you.
Thanks again for your comment and comittment!

        3. Good on ya, Major Gardner MD. One Veteran to another, thank you for your service to our country, and if any of that service was overseas, WELCOME HOME, sir.

    1. And they went to college to learn to care for us ! You imbeciles , if the get our guns you darn doctors will turn into morticions.

    2. How about we ban Doctors in this country who charges more than $100.00 an hour to work on you. Keep to what you know best stuped doctors. your not politicians.

    3. The same group that kills more people every day than guns. And every year kill more people than drunk drivers and all murders in the U.S.A..

    4. And then there’s the “research estimates up to 440,000 Americans are dying annually from preventable hospital errors.” This is all conveniently swept under the rug by our ruling betters.

    5. These are the same doctors that kill over 400,000 people a year because of mistakes they make while performing surgery on people.Doctors kill FAR more people every year than are killed by guns and knives combined.

    6. Doctors need to answer for the 425,000 to 440,000 (Consumer Reports) deaths that occur yearly in the US because of mistakes made by their fellow doctors, hospitals and drug companies. We should be asking our doctors how many bodies out the back door are they responsible for. The actual number of deaths by killing by guns if you take out the gang related deaths is less than 4,000 per year. Yes there are about 20,000 suicides by guns but a number of reports state that this number would not decline if guns were not available. Two recent suicides by well known celebrities are a good example. What is more interesting is that the number of deaths by – semi automatic long guns (mislabeled “Assault Weapons) – is less than 600 per year. Considering that there are over 10,000,000 for these weapons privately this a ridiculously low number. In fact the number of drowning was 3778, and death resulting from falls was 34,670. The number of deaths coming from traffic deaths was 39,973. When will the BS stop.

      1. There was actually an article recently that said those semi automatic long guns saved more lives, than they took. That’s one fact none of the anti gunners want known.

    7. there are 28000+ deaths per year from opiods and heroin. That’s over 500 per week. There were roughly 700 deaths per week, in 2016 from auto accidents. I don’t hear the doctors trying to ban cars or prescriptions opioids. Screw them. They just want to be p.c.

    8. If these law’s are passed it will open up the way for Democrats to take out or change our Gun rights.

      1. Even if a law was passed outlawing all guns most gun owning patriotic Americans would not comply. Mostly because we know the dangers of giving up all guns. Under current constitutional rights, which is the law of the land, such a law would be unconstitutional. Laws actually mean nothing if they are not enforceable. Absolutely no gun confiscation law would survive here in America. If anyone should ask why it is an easy question to answer. Gun confiscation is always the first action of a dictatorship in order to get total control over the people. “Dozens” of dictatorships in the 20th century after the guns were gone rounded up citizens, unable to defend themselves, that the dictator considered a threat and murdered them. Now that was mass murder by lunatics. However, that can not happen to an armed nation. Therefore, every American citizen should understand gun rights are a national defense right. The second amendment was put in place to defend against a tyrannical government. The second amendment guarantees the rest of our constitutional rights.

The saying “when guns our outlawed only outlaws will have guns.” Is certainly true but so is the last part of that saying. That last part of that saying, that few ever hear, is here in America there may be over a hundred million new outlaws. We will remain armed. And we will fight government if need be.

    9. More people are killed by doctors every year than guns. They want to take away legal guns that leaved you with no defense in your home.

    10. You forgot the nurses that are over worked and understaffed. They really like to abuse all their staff an drive out there best worker especially the patient care advocates that try to help an save patient from the over worked staff and the drug up over paid Doctors. Gun control will not lessen their work because criminals don’t follow any laws. Guns can be hand made pretty easily. The only thing they will do is hurt the people that will be our Heroes an save lives. Guns don’t kill people people do. N.Y.S. Safe Act has created a whole new black market of gun builders with no care for any laws. You don’t want that in your State. We need free trade. The legal gun shops are being hurt here. To all the good doctors its up to you to protect our freedom an liberty or what left of it. I want to thank all the doctors for there great work saving lives. I just can support Nazi gun control you saw what happened in Germany please don’t let it happen in the land of the free an the home of the brave the USA.

    11. These scumbag doctors would fill out Xanax scripts like candy. These are also the scumbags that want to ban CBD oil and lied to US citizens when they said Cannabis has not medical value while the gov’t had U.S. Patent No. 6,630,507.

    12. perhaps they ought to concentrate more on all the people they kill annualy with their stupid mistakes…..

  2. An amazing amount of bull! If they ( the AMA)really want to save lives they should unhook themselves from the FDA (bought and paid for by …guess who) and the pharmaceutical industry, which is responsible for far more deaths than the illegal gun owners would ever do.

  3. Why don’t they try and do something about the high price of drugs oh that’s right they can’t do that it’s where all there kickback money comes from !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  4. When they start talking about how to cut down on the 270,000 people killed annually by medical mistakes and malpractice, I’ll start listening to them. Until then, not so much.

  5. Gun violence probably needs to be controlled but take the gun out and you have knife violence, car violence, bomb violence, people with violent personalities and dispositions are going to use any type of weapon to perform their atrocious deeds. Penalizing the law abiding and taking away their ability to protect themselves through gun control is not the answer. What next?? knife control? car control? hammer control? What are these AMA people going to do when their ER rooms fill up with other more haneious types of violent injuries.

  6. May be they should look in the mirror and see who are the people that are issuing all of the mind altering DRUGS. Guns are not committing suicide the people with the mental problems do. Most of the gunman have been linked to some kind of behavior drugs. Fix that first before you take the rights from responsible gun owners .

  7. My answer to any doctor that asks me do I own a gun is NONE YOUR PROFESSIONAL BUSINESS what I own or use , I don’t tell or ask you what kind of needle , medicine and preparation you used to give me a shot and I have no doubt that you would tell me its non of my business

  8. These gun grabbing self riteous fools have no answers to anything. Gun free school zones, how is that working? My bet is 99% have no idea what an assault weapon is nor have they used one. Assault weapons are already banned except for police and military use. Changing the age to purchase a gun won’t change anything as a majority of the guns used were legally purchased and many by someone other than the shooter. More laws will not make the FBI or local law enforcement do their job as with the School shooting in Florida. Had either the FBI or local LEOs done their job that shooting would never have happened. Get real, you take guns from legal owners and only the bad guys will have guns. See where that gets you. NO THANKS.

  9. If they want to curb gun violence , guess they need to do away with mind and mood altering drugs that they pass out like candy and is the root of almost every mass shooting. That might put a bunch of them out of business.

  10. What a shame that all those fine American folks get slaughter each and every month or so, seems that shooting innocent citizens of your country are fodder for being shot on this regular basis. Now in Canada, same kind of folks have a few shotguns and some rifles and that’s about it, no wholesale slaughters here that I am aware of.
Maybe time to just lower ammunition supply availability and these events would dwindle without guns being the issue, no ammo, no slaughters…………….. I realize ammo can be made privately, but not for most people, make ammo disappear some of the trouble is eliminated without worrying about the guns so much.
    Just a thought!

    1. Your wrong, Canada has had mass shootings, lowering the ammunition supply is stupid. Scumbags steal ammo to or just get the “baby mommas” or friend to buy it

    2. There are less people in Canada than the US. Alaska is a lot like Canada except more guns are owned. You don’t hear about anything happening up there either. Population is too low. Ammo has nothing to do with it either. The gun doesn’t cause someone to kill. It’s the person that makes that decision. If they don’t have a gun then they’ll find some other type of weapon to do what they want. Besides, don’t worry about what we do south of the border. Worry about your own country.

      1. Exactly Robert Branch, I remember an assault/rape occurred sometime back when the victim was found dead with her breast cut off by a coke can torn in half and a piece of 2×4 hammered into her vagina. Now will the socialist dumb asses AMA please tell me that gun control will stop this kind of violence!!!!!

    3. Keep your CANADA BS IN CANADA If it works for you good. NOT HERE, WE ARE NOT INTERESTED IN YOUR CANADA BS

  11. Lets just forget the cuts on Mental Issues, drug addiction, and really who pulls the trigger the gun must do it all by it’s self.
American people have to wake up and realize that this all starts at home. Kids, getting bullied, abuse in the family, that is carried unto adulthood.

    1. Yolanda. I Agree, It’s the LACK of Parental supervision that lets thing like the school shooting happen, and WAY TOO MUCH Call to duty type video games, it’s so much fun, they want to try it in real life, They were never taught that this crap was WRONG, By their MOM or DAD. lettem play, their out of our hair. What can it hurt, it’s just a game.

  12. Another group reminiscent of actors and sports figures that use their public exposure to promote their slanted and uneducated opinions.

  13. Being a health care person I can understand where they are coming from. However, If they look at the gun as being the bad guy they also need to look at the automobile, baseball ball bats, clubs, knifes and frying pans as being the cause of injuries through America or even the world. The first murder committed was done with a rock. Not any of the aforementioned items. The AMA needs to step back into their profession and think about what is really causing these outbreaks of violence. The gun, knife, bat, club, stone, etc, does not say I’m going to kill someone. It’s the individual who decides to commit the crime. Think about this and then tell me who or what caused the incident. The gun, knife, bat, car etc. does not have a brain or even feelings. The control of guns, knifes, etc, is in education. This comes from a person who is 78 years old and a formed Military Investigator and Deputy Sheriff with three children, seven grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. I have always instructed them in weapons and the consequences or action of their use.

    1. You are 78 years and lived in an era when we brought our guns to school so we could hunt after school. Nobody shot anybody. We walked down the street a few blocks to hunt in the fields beyond, nobody ever stopped us or questioned what we were doing.Nobody ever got shot. We all, kids , had guns, hunted together, played choose up baseball or basketball, swam in the local streams in the summer. Nobody ever shot anybody. The medical community blames the shootings on the gun? They are the educated and can only come up with the gun being the problem. Guess they are’t so educated after all.

    2. Great post Anthony Larry, I have 20 years Law Enforcement and three years of Military Service, when my daughter was young she was taught about guns and safety now she’s 21 years old she’s well instructed in gun safety plus split second decision on self protection. I’m very proud of my daughter

  14. It seems odd to me if you look at all of the mass shootings, these individuals are either underage (meaning they have illegally obtained the weapon), on medication that should have been reported, or stolen weapons to begin with. Individuals of this caliber will not abide by any law that is passed. The only ones that are being targeted by all of these new laws are the law abiding public. And to make matters worse you keep creating more gun free zones which tell the criminals that there will be a delayed response so take out as many as you can. This is insane.

    1. Amen Mike, what I’v been saying ever since this GUN GRAB Started, WHEN GUNS ARE OUTLAWED, ONLY OUTLAWS WILL HAVE GUNS.

  15. To begin with I am a moderate. I would be for any practical way to save our children’s lives. However, some things do not work. Gun free zones are like a big come shoot me sign. This is proven NOT to work. Removing firearms from high risk individuals. Sounds good. But who is going to decide who is “high risk”. If this were fleshed out and stated plainly, I might back it. We definitely need a better method for tracking those who can not own firearms legally in order to do background checks. Changing the legal age to buy guns and ammunition to 21. Someone should do a study of age groups to see if 18–20 year old citizens are more likely to buy and use a firearm to kill someone. If the study shows that this would actually help, I would back it. However, the arbitrary picking of 21 as a magic number seems like knee-jerk action. This needs some study. God Bless.

    1. I, agree, because that Las Vegas shooter was well over 21, so l guess 21 is not the magic number. So where are you going to start, maybe 100. And believe it or not there have been a lot of concealed weapons permit holders, that have saved lives (including even policemens lives), and the NRA is not the problem, because there has not been a single report of a NRA member causing any of these school shootings or any shootings (except for apprehending the shooter) for that matter., in fact there was a NRA member that shot and killed the shooter in the Texas church shooting (and from what I heard) he was actually bare footed when another person drove the vehicle that chased the shooter down and shot and killed the perpetrator.

    2. I am sure that automobiles driven by licensed drivers under 21 years old kill far more people than firearms legally possesed by <21 year olds. If raising the age to purchase a long gun to 21 is an effective way to reduce school shooting raising the driving age would be more effective in reducing preventable loss of life. Also, considering K-12 mass school shootings only Parkland would have been prevented.

    3. If you think raising the age limit to 21,for gun purchases makes sense, then we should also make 21 the age for military service.

  16. Guns don’t kill a half and many people as the doctors day with your six Madison and her piss poor surgeries and their prescription of worthless drugs that don’t care nothing but ends up killing more people like your Met Forman and as her diabetic medicine when there’s

  17. The AMA can push whatever it wants, BUT should take a serious look at themselves. The opioid problem that we have in this country is directly related to the medical field. Doctors make mistakes, however, they don’t police themselves, rather the mistakes are covered up and the doctors move on. Forgotten in all of this are 2 important matters; the Second Amendment (which many feel protects the other amendments) and the fact that 18 year olds can sign up with Uncle Sam to protect and serve without a parent’s consent. If they are old enough to make that decision, they should be old enough to purchase a firearm. The other fact that is not addressed is that all the laws and regulations fall to law abiding citizens. Criminals are termed criminals because they don’t respect and obey laws. How are any of these proposals going to solve that element???

    1. If we stop calling them “criminals” and more correctly call them “outlaws” (they choose to act OUT-side the LAW) — the picture becomes much clearer.

  18. Gun violence is a product of something for nothing. Cut government dependence before cutting my rights.

  19. How about the worst of the “mass shootings” were because the AMA members failed to report these people as a threat to society! Yeah, the same hand wringers that have all the answers are a major part of the problem! Harassing patients about firearms ownership, while prescribing opioids at an out of control volume! Yeah, let’s point the finger and hope no one realizes that the real problem is the AMA and Psychiatric Association of America! They are the cause of nearly all of the mass shootings!!

  20. Excuse me, how many deaths are doctor’s mistakes. What kind of numbers do they churn a year? Should we ban surgeons, psychiatrist who can help depression ant it’s worst, those who misdiagnose and prescribe the wrong meds?
Please, stick to correcting your own house before trying to clean someone else’s. OH, are they shooters?

  21. LETS GIVE THEM A DOSE OF THEIR OWN MEDICINE.
    1) LETS REGISTER EACH NEEDLE AND SYRINGE THAT THE DR HAS AND TRACE THEM FROM THE TIME THAT THEY BUY THEM, THROUGH THERE USE AND DISPOSAL. THEY MUST FILL OUT THE PROPER PAPERWORK FOR EACH ONE THAT THEY TAKE OUT, WHO THEY USE IT ON, FOR WHAT PURPOSE, WHEN, WHERE, AND AT WHAT TIME. THEN THEY MUST DOCUMENT THEIR DISPOSAL OF THE NEEDLE/SYRINGE. ALSO THEY NEED TO DOCUMENT SCALPELS, AND ALL OTHER MEDICAL EQUIPMENT.
    2) THEY MUST WRITE DOWN WHO HAS ACCESS TO ALL THIS MEDICAL EQUIPMENT AND WHEN THEY HAVE ACCESS TO IT. THEY MUST VISUALLY CONFIRM THE PRESENCE OF THE EQUIPMENT AFTER SOMEONE HAS ACCESS TO IT.
    3) THEY MUST APPLY FOR A LICENSE TO BUY AND POSSESS MEDICAL EQUIPMENT AND HAVE WEEKLY INSPECTIONS OF IT DONE BY POLICE.
    4) THERE WOULD ALSO HAVE TO BE A WAITING PERIOD BEFORE THEY COULD ORDER SOMETHING, PASS A BACKGROUND CHECK, AND THEN WAIT BEFORE RECEIVING IT. LET’S SAY 72 HRS.
    5) THEY WOULD HAVE TO PERSONALLY GO TO DEALER TO PICK IT UP AFTER THE WAITING PERIOD. NO DIRECT SHIPMENT BY MAIL TO THEIR OFFICE OR HOME!
HOW LONG DO YOU THINK IT WOULD BE BEFORE THEY START PROTESTING HAVING TO DO THESE THINGS? HOW LONG WOULD IT BE BEFORE THEY START TO CLAIM THESE RULES ARE STUPID AND SERVE NO PURPOSE? HOW LONG BEFORE THEY CLAIM THAT THIS IS AN INFRINGEMENT ON THEIR FREEDOM AND ABILITY TO DO THEIR JOB? OR CLAIM IT AS BEING AN UNNECESSARY HOOP AND EXPENSE TO JUMP THROUGH?

  22. Doctors kill way more people through malpractice, incompetence and for profit unnecessary medical procedures than all gun deaths combined. They police themselves like lawyers and cops do. I hereby call for more doctor accountability and control. Otherwise STFU!

  23. You are, in the United States, 1,000 times more likely to be killed by a doctor than by a gun. So: using your own “logic” would result in out lawing doctors. Not just the doctors that killed someone through neglect or incompetence, but all doctors. It is frightening to think that someone smart enough to become an MD could be be so gullible.

  24. These Doctors are such morons. I am in constant pain from the metal hips that were put in and need to take Morphine and Oxycontin to be-able to function and then they are now trying to take it away from me. As of 1/1/2019 My Doctor will stop prescribing pain medications. So now that the government created so much red tape that my Doctor does not want to waste the time to do this so it is me that will suffer until I have had enough. F-in Doctors!

  25. About 5 years ago I had to go to the Dr. And part of the questions was go I own any firearms, well that was not a question I expected,I asked the female Dr. If she had any SEX TOYS! You should have seen her face! She sputtered and could not answer. She asked what that had to do with guns. I asked whatguns had to do with my health care?

    NO ANSWER!

  26. The AMA would be better suited to address issues over which they have the ability, opportunity and professional obligation to control…medical malpractice. The number of deaths and irreversible injuries visited upon unsuspecting patients by their doctors should be the focus of their concern. It is at epidemic levels!! It is truly sad that their expensive and time-consuming education left a void in their common sense reasoning ability. For the AMA to advocate having all schools declared a “gun free zone” is tantamount to extending an invitation to all the deranged and troubled souls to treat it as “open season” at these schools. Maybe their under-developed core of common sense causes them to conclude that a would-be shooter will read the sign and honor the gun free status by not going on campus with a firearm. I would much rather my child attend a school where some of the personnel are well trained and possess a firearm, and additionally have a large conspicuous sign at the school entrance announcing that fact. That more than anything would deter selection of that school as a soft target. Their position lends credence to the old truism…”you can’t fix stupid.”

  27. With over 270,000 medical deaths annually, thru “medical malpractice”. Shouldn’t we as a caring and peaceful seeking society, Be having Dr.’s licenses revoked at the first sign of failing to care for the “best healthcare” for their patients ? Why is medical malpractice such a lucrative lawsuit for many people who are harmed or disfigured by these “harbingers of death” ? Shouldn’t they have to prove they can actually perform these procedures for 10 years before they are allowed to charge someone a monetary fee for said procedure ? Seems that they’re view is as skewed as the relentless fees they charge patients ! Stick to your own area of knowledge, “or lack thereof” and back the “Fock off” !

  28. Is there one fact in this article that is true? You can read between the lines and figure out they have an agenda. I’m going out and buy me another gun and a bunch more ammo.

  29. What do doctors suddenly know about guns? The answer, no more or no less than the average person, who knows nothing about brain surgery. In point of fact, most gun owners know much more about their guns and gun culture, than a doctor knows about the various diseases he is expected to treat. My response to the doctors would be, you concentrate on illnesses and being the best doctor you can be, and I’ll concentrate on being the best gun owner I can be. Keep in mind a gun is only a tool, much like your stethoscope, and if used properly, in the right hands can be a valuable asset in the right situation.

  30. People killed by firearms is a tragedy. But the even greater tragedy is the tens of thousands killed every year by medical malpractice. That is why I am introducing legislation today to criminalize medical malpractice.

We need these lab coated maniacs off our streets.

Lets see if they want to play for real. They think there isn’t a down side to this foolishness.

  31. I can relate to most of the posted comments and agree fully that guns alone do not kill or wound people. They are mere tools and as such you have to learn how to use it properly. Most people talk without proper information and knowledge and thus from emotion, not hard facts. This is the case with the AMA! Having been a physician for longer than 30 years, I have seen more than my share of gunshot wounds. More than 90% have been inflicted by illegally obtained guns in the hands of delinquents. That said, IF YOU OUTLAW GUNS, ONLY OUTLAWS WILL HAVE GUNS. I have carried LEGALLY concealed guns for at least 40 years and NEVER have had the need to use it outside of the shooting range; but it’s better to have it and not need it, than to need it and not have it. During my whole career I never inquired about gun possession on any of my patients, even the ones I knew were military or law enforcement which were significant. This does not mean that I didn’t oversee their mental health if any was suspected, and appropriate course of action taken immediately. GUN FREE ZONES = COME AND SHOOT US WE’RE DEFENSELESS. Legislation to take away our 2nd amendment rights is sheer hypocrisy, since those same legislators walk about surrounded by ARMED BODYGUARDS, ARMED POLICEMEN, AND TO TOP IT ALL…PAID BY US!!

  32. My M.D. (also our company doctor)took his son on a hog hunt two years ago and they also hunt deer and small game. One of my Chiropractors has a FFL and is an avid shooter and collector, the other also likes to hunt and collect guns. My father was a Chiropractor from 1945 to retirement and he taught me to shoot and hunt at a very young age. MY summation would be to choose your doctors by first asking some relevant questions during or before your first official visit.

  33. YOU PEOPLE NEED TO REMEMBER THAT IT WAS OBAMA AND HIS CRONIES THAT ASK THE AMA AND DOCTORS TO CLASSIFY GUN VIOLENCE AS A DISEASE…….. YOU REMEMBER ? THIS IS JUST ANOTHER LIBERAL PLOY TO GET THEIR AGENDA PASSED. VIOLENCE IS NOT A DISEASE–THE HEARTS AND MINDS OF PEOPLE MUST VALUE LIFE ITSELF BEFORE THIS PROBLEM WILL PASS. BANNING THE TOOL IS JUST A TREATMENT OF THE SYMPTOM. THE PROBLEM LIES IN THE CORRUPTION OF ONES SOUL THAT COMMITS THESE ACTS.

  34. Dipshits, they have no clue. Wonder how many DRs. are gun owners? I’ve known a number in my life time. Would like to know the true number of Docs that are pushing for this. And calling violence a health problem? The only cure for human nature is NO more humans. I’m not going to volunteer to be the poster boy on that one, I like living. They need to stop giving wacko’s their 15 min of fame. Stop trying figure out what makes them tick and treat them the way they deserve, as rabid dogs. You don’t try to treat them, just put them down. I’d volunteer for that duty.

  35. “We need our schools to be gun free zones” . First off, they are gun free. Second, gun free zones don’t work. Since they were enacted, except for a couple, EVERY mass shooting of 3 or more people has happened in a gun free zone. Except for the terrorist acts( ISIS, etc.) all the shooters have been DEMOCRATS. Sure looks to me like they are doing this on purpose to get their way. Because this info is NOT left out to the public.

  36. No reputable medical journal would analyze or evaluate a medical treatment without a complete cost benefit analysis. The AMA is reacting to the costs but ignoring the benefits of defensive firearms use, lives saved, home invasions repelled, etc.

Here’s one summary of the other side of the equation, CDC data no less:

    https://thepoliticalinsider.com/cdc-gun-study-shocking-finding/?source=CI&utm_medium=referral&utm_source=idealmedia&utm_campaign=thepoliticalinsider.com&utm_term=68938&utm_content=2226419

  37. since most states wont allow a minor under the age of 21 to purchase or drink alachol why not raise the voting age for them

  38. hmmm.”Gun free school zones”.Does that mean if my house is within a certain distance from a school ( as in “drug free school zones”) I would be prohibited from owning firearm? Whoe. just think about that bs.

  39. All I can say is WOW! My Son-in-Law is a Doctor and a gun owner. So is my Family Doctor and so are all the Physicians that attend to my ills. Hey, BTW, I love Idaho!

  40. As I am a ER nurse of 25 years I can tell you that only two gun shots came through our doors but I know at least 3 drug overdoses per day came in in the last 10 years so where does the problem lye it is not guns that is the problem it could be the AMA its self

  41. That’s right – keep bashing the docs. Does anybody here realize that only 17% of the physicians in America are part of the AMA. The AMA is a political organization with an agenda. It does NOT represent physicians in America, does NOT speak for physicians in America, and certainly does NOT not have the support of the majority of physicians.

  42. These IDIOTIC Doctors need to do what they are trained to do and that is treat Medical Problems.! One does not see a gun manufacturer performing surgery or prescribing medication. Doctors go to college to become educated IDIOTS that can perform surgery and prescribe Medication. They are not cops, Lawyers, and do not write or enforce law Therefore they should limit their practices to what they went to college for Treating Medical issues period.!!

  43. Ok guys the fun is over. stop prescribing your mind bending drugs like Adderall, etc to Kids. Maybe if the drugs don’t make them crazy by taking them away, they won’t go crazy and start shooting their friends and relatives, DAH! I really don’t think the gun are on meds.

  44. They kill far more people with their “ medical errors”, abortions, assisted suicide, and just plain malpractice than gun have ever done!!! Giant hypocrites! !!!

  45. Disarm hate? They mean get rid of bats, clubs, 2x4s, etc. Tell the doctor’s that 50+% of murders take place in 5% of the counties and that 25% of gun crimes occur in Detroit, Baltimore, Chicago and the nation’s capital. Analyse that in your medical computer and correlate it to the country as a whole!

  46. Guns have nothing to do with hate; hate will still exist with or without guns. Doctors probably are responsible for more deaths than guns. In actuality, the AMA is controlled by the corrupt, international globalist elites who are out to disarm the people of the world so they will be more docile slaves. Our founders made sure that defense of oneself was noted as a “right” and not a “privilege” so that it is irrevocable by ballot or law and is individual and unlimited. Anyone attacking the 2nd amendment is committing “treason” to the Constitution for the United States of America because they are also trying to usurp Gods will (natural law).

  47. For the AMA

    Matthew 12:34 (NIV)
“You brood of vipers, how can you who are evil say anything good? For the mouth speaks what the heart is full of.”

    Drop mic!

  48. GUNS DONT KILL PEOPLE… PEOPLE KILL PEOPLE BECAUSE THEY DO NOT GET THE HELP THEY NEED (MEDICAL) BUT INSTEAD THEY WILL FEED HOMELESS PEOPLE INSTEAD OF CARING ABOUT THE PUBLICS SAFTEY HARD TO BELIEVE WHATS IT IS BECOMING?????????? NOT GOOD…. OR WARNING SIGNS BEFORE THEY GO NUTS…..

  49. So the AMA thinks they have the solution? I thought these men all had college degrees and showed some resemblance of intelligence. They are being played by the press. If the press has a bridge to sell them they would all jump at the chance. I would be they see much more carnage in the ER than in all of this gun stuff from automobile accidents.

  50. Once again, the issue is misaddressed. Guns should not be personified. Doctors are supposed to heal people, so heal them before they self destruct and take someone else with them, but it’s easier for them to blame something else and remain unaccountable for misdiagnosing or providing adequate follow up.

  51. The problem I see with gun control is it’s never been the gun’s it’s been the people. Measures have been in place to help prevent people of unsavory character or mentally inept from purchasing guns, problem is they will get them some other way. The newer generation has not been thought proper morals, respect for others, responsibilities etc. If someone wants to commit a crime, it’s easy enough to get a gun, explosives, knives, hatchets etc. . Manson’s bunch used knives, in Utah they used fertilizer, just the other day a man was stopped via the background check from purchasing a gun, so he bought a hatchet and killed his ex-employer anyway.
But I digress, back to the three
advocating for schools as gun-free zones……. they have always been gun free????
removing firearms from high-risk individuals…. gun laws are in place, it’s the determination of who is high-risk individuals
supporting increase in legal age of purchasing ammunition and firearms from 18 to 21……. Then I guess they should increase the age to join the military.

  52. FOLKS!—–JUST BECAUSE THEY HAVE AN MD DEGREE, DOESNT MAKE THEM SMART! I WAS IN MEDICAL FIELD FOR 30 YRS, AND I KNOW A LOT OF STUPID, DUMB, DOCTORS—THAT SHOULDN’T BE DOCTORS. JUST ANOTHER BONEHEAD LIBERAL GROUP WE ALL HAVE TO CONTEND WITH. I LOVE MY GUNS—-I HAVE FUN WITH THEM—-ITS A HOBBY I REALLY ENJOY. I’LL FIGHT AGAINST THESE GROUPS THE BEST I CAN. WE CANT GIVE IN OR GIVE UP—–STAY STRONG!!!

    1. Thank you for the testimony doctor read my comment below it’s self-explanatory unfortunately opiates are the only thing that does help target shooting is one of the few Hobbies I can still do although I voted yes for the medical marijuana in Florida I am furious I am forced to choose between my pain medication and my second amendment rights they are trying to force me to get a medical marijuana card despite me repeatedly telling them no I carry a concealed weapon my last visit they told me I had to have it by the next visit or I would not receive my medication I’m a veteran and NRA member and my guns do mean a lot to me the fact that I am allowed to carry concealed legally and possibly save someone’s life or my own is important to me it is great to hear a doctor’s opinion thank you NRA forever Michael

  53. When it comes to doctors and opioid prescriptions right along with other mind altering drugs it is the doctors that need controls. Certainly not guns.

  54. Reading this does anyone think how CC (Conceal Carry) saves lives. Over my 80 years young, I have had more than a few. Student, USCG, young father, salesman, now retired)
First driving home from night school, assailant tries to break in my car on passenger side while stopped at a light. 38 SW pointed at him and he ran!
Second, 1:00am at home and young family sleeping. Someone tried to break down my front door. USCG 45 Automatic pointed in his face and he tears down my trellis roses leaving blood and pieces of shirt behind.
Third, having a late breakfast in a crowed and popular restaurant on a summer day. Watching front as 3 men in black trench coats come in, trench coats in Summer? I walked behind counter, told owners to place hands under counter or register! First man approaches us but now doubt on his face when he sees my gun in holster and 2 guys whose hands he now cannot see. He ask directions to a store and he and partners back out of restaurant. Owner told me my breakfast now and future will be FREE.
Fourth, I am getting home just as two men come out my back door with Flat screen, laptop, and wife’s jewelry in pillow case. I stepped out of car aiming my 38 auto at the two. Burglary for these two earned 15 to 20 each.
True stories where legal and CC man saves lives and never fired a shot. Plus life member NRA.

    1. Great testimony please read my comment below concealed carry is important to me I’m sure we are a lot alike in the restaurant I’m in the corner facing the door I know where all the exits are I’m watching people how they come in and their demeanor when I go to the doctor I sit in a chair facing the door with the door open so I can listen for raised voices knowing that arguments break out and there has been a rash of doctors getting injured I will stop here and hope you read my comment a fellow NRA member

  55. They are trying to take the spotlight off of themselves as more people die from medical malpractice than from guns.

    1. I’m a little confused ld-50 for medical marijuana so how are people dying from it I have been fighting against getting medical marijuana because I consider my concealed carry card much more important the ability to defend myself and others without being impaired is important to me but before I voted for marijuana I studied it a lot there is no lethal dose at least none that I can find if you can find something please reply so I may view that info no disrespect intended

  56. Could the AMA be trying to get the spotlight off of the opioid epidemic that their members are the key to fostering, or maybe it is the number of deaths caused by the “mis-management” of care in hospitals that is causing them to duck for cover.

  57. I am a Navy veteran and former firefighter in Florida I am disabled due to severe back trauma suffered not only throughout several injuries but in service to my community when a burning house collapsed upon me breaking my back after almost a year and three quarters I was finally able to go back to work at an office job where I had to crawl up the stairs before my final injury trying to start my lawn mower resulting in tearing and breaking nerves loose from scar tissue which forms more scar tissue and makes things worse with every fall my medical record is well-documented and I have been going to the same Clinic and have been on the same medication since 2015 after firing my former doctor because he put me on too high a dose of Fentanyl and refused to lower the dose when I went to my new Clinic the first words were can you please lower it down to 75 from 100 because 100 is too much that was my first visit on my last visit I was informed I had to get a medical marijuana card yes I voted for medical marijuana however I also have a concealed weapons card and have been fighting against getting the medical marijuana card just due to the fact I carry protection not only for myself but for those that are not able or willing to protect themselves something that was drilled into me for me young age in all my years of carrying concealed I pulled my weapon one time and that was on a charging bull dog and no shot was fired I was told that I needed a medical marijuana card to prove I was in pain for the medication I need to stand upright and walk with the aid of a Mobility dog I have let them know every procedure they wanted I have had every test and there is no pump they can put in there is no stim unit that can help me my issue is very deep deep within cadaver bone that was packed so tightly around the screws and pins within my back that the area is in accessible they gave me a choice between pain medication and the right to defend myself like all veterans I hold the oath I took to protect the Constitution very much too heart and will always continue to sincerely Michael

  58. not all doctors are in the AMA. It is mainly Academics. I dropped out many years ago. Lifetime NRA member now.
